Tendo Oshida (押田 天童, Oshida Tendō) is a character featured in Yakuza 5. He is a mysterious hermit who trains Taiga Saejima in the Mountain Village.
Background[]
Tendo was a famous magician when he was younger. His performances drew large crowds, but his career ended after the bursting of Japan's bubble economy. To find a place where he could practice his magic tricks or test new ideas, he went to the secluded mountains of rural Hokkaido, keeping his equipment stored in a shrine.
Involvement[]
Yakuza 5: 2012[]
Tendo requests offerings from Saejima in the form of the bounty of the mountain. When Saejima gives the gods an offering, Tendo is possessed by the spirit of a god of the mountain, Todoroki, and begins to levitate. The next time Saejima makes an offering, Tendo is possessed by Todoroki's older brother, Ikazuchi. Ikazuchi reveals that there is an entire clan of mountain gods.
Eventually, after Saejima offers an X-rated magazine as a joke offering, Tendo faints and is unable to levitate. Saejima accuses Tendo of faking all of the supernatural experiences. Tendo apologizes before confessing that his "true identity" is yet to be revealed. He disappears, leading Saejima to believe that he is actually one of the mountain gods.
While making preparations for his parlor tricks, Tendo realizes Saejima has returned to the shrine once more after completing training, and tries to hide, but his flatulence gives him away. He reveals his tricks to Saejima and tells him his history before disappearing again.
Fighting style[]
While "possessed by the gods of the mountain," Tendo flies around and dodges using mid-air spins. He can shoot fireballs at Saejima. When "possessed by Todoroki," he can summon spirits from the snow. When "possessed by Ikazuchi," he is able to call avalanches.
