SPOILER WARNING: Plot details for Judgment follow. (Skip)

Around 2009, Okubo drunkenly assaulted his girlfriend and broke her finger. He was charged with criminal assault and soon split off from her. By 2015, he entered a relationship with Emi Terasawa. In 2015, as a janitor working at the ADDC, Okubo was loading his truck when he found the dead body of Koichi Waku inside of it. Due to his criminal record, he decided to bury the body in the Okutama mountains as to not be suspected for the crime.

Eventually police came to the conclusion that the victim was taken out of the institute, and started inspecting all of the cars coming in and out of the ADDC, and Okubo was left as the only possible suspect. Upon interrogation, he quickly confessed to hiding the body in the mountains, and the body would be dug up three months later. Suspected of murder, Okubo pleaded innocent and hired Takayuki Yagami as his lawyer during the trial.

Okubo was acquitted for the crime and he returned to his life with Emi. However, one month later, while Okubo was asleep at home, he woke up to his house burning down and was also mysteriously intoxicated. He was arrested and later informed of the murder of Emi, and was immediately suspected for the crime. Okubo hired Yagami as his lawyer again, however with the defense unsuccessful, Okubo was given the death sentence and was transferred to the Tokyo Detention Center.

Involvement[]

Judgment: 2018-2019[]

Okubo is visted by Takayuki Yagami for the first time in three years and is questioned if he really committed the crimes. Initially having trouble speaking, Okubo once again reaffirms his innocence and becomes frustrated when he sees Yagami unconvinced.

A few days later, Okubo is visited once again by Yagami, who states he now fully believes Okubo is innocent and asks for another chance. Overjoyed, Okubo agrees and thanks him.

Yagami talks once again to Okubo, this time about what he has learned about Shono. He states that he will free Okubo, and Emi's brother Fumiya would like to visit her grave with him after he is released.

In early 2019, Shono's AD-9 conspiracy is exposed, and Okubo's name is cleared. Yagami visits Okubo ahead of his retrial, noting it is only a formality and he does not need to worry about being incarcerated again. Yagami then leaves to allow Okubo to talk with Fumiya.
