Kanji Manabe (真鍋 幹二, Manabe Kanji) is a character featured in Yakuza 5. He is a former batter for the Nagoya Wyverns and the owner of Yakiniku Ittoukai.

Appearance[]

Manabe is a middle-aged man standing at above-average height. Given his career as professional baseball player, he has a large build, and his arms can be seen to be quite muscular. He has dark brown, slicked-back hair, and a short goatee.

Attire[]

Manabe wears black trousers, black shoes and a white apron, over a white shirt and black, long sleeve top with the sleeves with sleeves roled up.

Background[]

In 1997, Manabe was a batter for the Nagoya Wyverns, and was aware of the corruption going on with the team. One day, Manabe was given his phone back by the team's masseuse, Uno. With the possibility that Uno viewed his messages, Manabe mananged to remove Uno from the team. Around 2007, Manabe retired from baseball, and attempted to run several businesses. By 2012, his only remaining business was Yakiniku Ittoukai, where he served as the owner and chef. At some point, Uno visited Yakiniku Ittoukai, but Manabe kicked him out immediately.

One day, Manabe is visited by Tatsuo Shinada, and is questioned about details surrounding Shinada's baseball ban. Manabe eventually gives in, and reveals several details surrounding the past events, and warns Shinada several times to quit digging into the case.

After the truth of the Nagoya Family is revealed, Manabe turns himself in on Fumiya Ushijima's behest, and is released soon after.

Fighting Style[]

Manabe wields a kitchen knife in combat. His moveset is comprised of:

  • his Rush Combo, made up of a knife thrust followed by two thrusts at the midsection;
  • a second combo, made up of a high thrust, a midsection thrust, a downward diagonal left slash, and a downward diagonal right slash;
  • a sweeping low right kick-knife thrust combo, and
  • a charging low thrust, followed by him lowering Shinada to the ground before pulling the blade out if it connects.

He emits a bright red aura.

Manabe's moveset is reused by Ginger Chapman, a Bed of Styx coliseum opponent in Yakuza 0.
